The people of the Cordilleras are great artisans, with strong beliefs in their ancestral past. The exhibit displays handwoven textiles such as loincloths, blankets, wrap-around skirts and upper garments and other personal accessories and body decorations, as well as different types of baskets and backpacks, hand-carved wooden artifacts which include rice gods or_bulul_, walking sticks, ceremonial vessels, food bowls, spoons and other utilitarian items from the personal collection of the gallery owners. The exhibition will run through

March 15, 2020.

The Filipino Instant Pot Cookbook was created out of an alignment in values: cultural pride, good food, and spending quality time with loved ones. The book adds to the rising, international Filipino Food Movement. We are also leaders of the Filipino Recipes Instant Pot Community on Facebook, founded by husband Jorell and wife Tisha, which has over 50,000 followers around the globe. The Filipino Instant Pot Cookbook is an exciting new cookbook that was born of six second generation Filipino Americans (Jorell Domingo, Tisha Gonda Domingo, Jeannie E. Celestial, Art Swenson, Romeo Roque Nido, and Jaymar Cabebe)! Authors Jorell and Tisha join Philippine Expressions Bookshop for a panel discussion together with Margaret Magat, to be moderated by FilAm Arts' Giselle Tongi- Walters.

Margaret Magat is a folklorist and independent scholar. She holds a Phd. in Folklore and Ethnography from University of Pennsylvania, and a Master’s Degree in Folklore from the University of California, Berkeley. She has published on topics such as Filipina migrant women in Italy and on Asian American expressive culture in journals such as Western Folklore, Proverbium, Paedagogica Historica, and in books including Problemas metodológicos en Antropología and Encyclopedia of Modern Asia. She is interested in beliefs, material and intangible culture, historic preservation, postcolonialism and Filipino as well as Asian American cultural practices. Margaret is currently working on an article on the vestiges of colonialism as found in foodways and verbal lore. Balut: Fertilized Eggs and the Making of Culinary Capital in the Filipino Diaspora is her first book.
